Avocado (persea Americano)

Avocado tree can be grown easily from inside your own home.After a couple of years you will have a large leaved plant about 1m (3ft) in height.

How
From the large stone within the fruit.
Push the blunt end into a pot containing multi-purpose compost.
Leave the pointed end exposed and keep it warm, about 20c until the leaves appear.
In the winter, keep cool (6-10c)
Repot annually and pinch the leaves to encourage growth.
Dates(phoenix dactylifera)

Dates can also be grown indoors.
With care and time, this stately tree will reach up to 1.5m


How
Plant the stone vertically in compost so the top is about 12mm below the surface.
Keep it warm, (15-20c) until germanation takes place, this may take up to 3 months, so be patient!
keep it cool in the winter (6-10c) and repot every year.

Citrus Fruits


The pips of citrus fruits germinate quite readily. Choose lemon (citrus lemon)  Orange (C.Sinensis) Grapefruit (C.Paradis)

How
Soak the pips over night and then press each one down to a depth of 12mm into a pot of good compost. keep the pot size to about 11cm.
Keep in a warm dark place until the shoots appear, then move to a sunny spot (a kitchen window)
Your plants can spend the summer months outside, but come in during those cold snaps, during the cold/winter, keep warm (6-10c)
